Competitive AI presents the future of sport and fundraising

When you think of the future of sport, AI may not be the first thing that comes to mind. If it is, then probably not in the way I’m thinking. This is not cool new cameras with immense stats. Instead, imagine two AI models competing against each other in an AI vs AI competition. That may become the future of sport.

Where is the demand?

This part is simple. Firstly, I do think it would be cool to have teams developing multimodal systems to compete in a variety of games and tasks. Seeing their creativity and skill would be entertaining to me. But more importantly, the dollars are there.

Where are the dollars?

This comes from a few places. Let’s start with the cost. The costs associated with developing these AI models, building the framework, and running them consistently are immense. These companies are looking for creative ways to fund their AI development. So where does the sports aspect come in here?

Future of Sport Revenue Generation

Imagine a head to head virtual battle where ChatGPT is facing off against Gemini. Each model has control of a player in a virtual world within a Hunger Games like civilization. Each needs to try to survive and be the last character standing to win.

This seems entertaining to me and I would watch. This means there is advertisement value. That value can go to the broadcaster who will also provide substantial prize money to the victor. While that is directly able to pay for the development and generate funds as desired, possible the larger benefit is the winner proving model superiority. If I was a company looking to decide which model to run my enterprise on and I just saw ChatGPT fail miserably on the field due to inability to comprehend something, I’d pick another model. These events become both funding and advertisement for the developers.

This kind of future of sport can help pay for the overwhelming costs of these models while driving better and more efficient progress in the area. AI is a unique technology that can actually benefit from a model like this and I would certainly enjoy it from the crowd.

Recently, major AI companies have been discussing IPOing which shows the desperation for funding. A company that can remain private and get adequate funding would be my pick to become the best if I had to choose.
